MySpace acquires iLike - the Big eats the little ones... so it goes.
SGL mission control has been busy promoting our current masterpiece using every possible tool @ our disposal for promotion and distribution. As anyone who is anyone knows MySpace has been and looks like will continue to be THE dominant online social marketplace for bands and artists to connect. So much so that anyone in the world could literally record, create and post a band profile in literally days and BOOM they would be DEEMED a BAND to which they could promote regardless of talent or skill creating an endless bubbling cauldron of sites and sounds in an endless maze of hopeful dreams and prospects looking to create the NEXT breakout indy phenomena!
NOw here at SGL laboratories we pride ourselves in being innovative in not only our live productions, compositions, costumes, stage show, special fx, etc but also in our marketing and promotional efforts. However, we have often been criticized for our lack of marketing and promotional capabilities which as of recently resulted in low friends and low play counts on our MySPace profile. This was a result of the FACT that we here @ SGL mission control believed and knew that MySpace has been and will continue to be a popularity contest first and foremost in determining who has the biggest cock in the room (translation: Who has the MOST friends WINS!)
With this in mind, our super awesome friends @ SGL prided themselves on a simple principle of "friending" only the people who were legitimate fans or friends and to avoid senseless spamming missions to try and GROW our popularity score. It would appear that this strategy is in fact completely counterproductive to way things REALLY work in this day and age of who has the biggest cock in the room. To quote Captain Tomorrow, "Play the game, you've got to play the game... its better to be safe then sorry..." it would appear going against the conventional wisdom of friending as many people as possible would seem to be the most logical and sensible thing to do if your going to even have a PRAYER at making a crack @ the big leagues (translation: music career for all band and production participants where their collective artistic and creative talents generate enough operating capital to not only sustain but thrive in a single-focused occupation of writing, performing and living music).
And so introduce iLike and Facebook! A new and fresh world for artists and bands and fans of music to potentially engage and interact in much more controlled and focused social networking environment that doesn't complete WREAK of the stench of shameless and relentless PROMOTIONS! (PLEASE LISTEN TO US CAUSE WE ARE REALLY GOOD I SWEAR TO FUCKING CHRIST JUST LISTEN!!!!!!) Ah yes, and in this new and happy land where friends, colleagues, family and acquaintances a new and interesting music based Widget was born called iLike which seemed simple, clean and innocuous enough that it might just be the KNOCK out PUNCH to the MySpace marketing whore machine.
Artists, label and bands could have a fresh and new start to really engaging and creating a meaningful interactive experience with their own inherent community (translation: Performers mingling with the fans in dialog exchanging ideas, content etc.) YES it would seem that iLike could be the ANSWER all of us REAL players were looking for....So much SO, that SGL even PURCHASED the OPPORTUNITY to be CONSIDERED as an APP on the iPhone ($99 btw) just days before the news hit.... MySpace acquires iLike.....
And just like that, we are back Packing our shorts with the 10 pound hammer (Translation: Get your spam Bots and player scripts ready to GAME The system for its a BRAVE not-so-new WORLD of digital madness ) Thank goodness we are ACTUALLY INCREDIBLE LIVE and do not rest on such laurels...
Dreaming Big and Living even Bigger, Harder, Faster, Stronger....
Super Awesome Guy
